APWA’s Excellence in Snow and Ice Control Award

The City of Beloit, Wisconsin, Department of Public Works was awarded the Excellence in Snow and Ice Control Award in April 2009 at the American Public Works Association’s (APWA) North American Snow Conference in Des Moines, Iowa. The city of Beloit’s director of operations, Christine Walsh, accepted the award during the conference. Walsh attributes the use of GEOMELT® as part of Beloit’s successful winter operations.

Proper strategic planning, state of the art brine equipment, the utilization of patented GEOMELT® liquid technology, and experienced public works crews in policy execution have contributed to the proven success of the City of Beloit’s winter operations according to Walsh. These factors were considered award criteria during the selection process. As stated by the APWA website, the Excellence in Snow and Ice Control Award was established “to promote the best practices in snow and ice removal while minimizing environmental impacts.”
